Civil Engineering Event for students begins at NIE Aakar 2014 Mysore

MYSORE : Aakar-2014, a two-day national-level civil engineering technical event, began at NIE Diamond Jubilee Sports Complex on Friday. Speaking at the inaugural function, H J Padmanabha, chief manager (civil works) of HAL, said that civil engineering is a diverse field. "It is coordinated with multi-disciplinary engineering works. Civil engineering students should not think that they have less opportunity in this field," he said, adding: 'civil' engineers must have qualities like 'c'reativity, 'i'ntegrety, 'v'alidation , 'i'ndustrialization besides being 'l'anguor.

About Event

Speaking on the occasion, NIE principal G L Shekar said that India is poised for a huge growth. "The central government intends to focus more on infrastructure. Japan has come forward to invest $30 billion in India, while China has offered $20 billion. Such investments indicate opportunity for civil engineering students," he said. 



Around 160 students from 30 colleges are taking part in the event. Technical quiz, treasure hunt, geo-technical event, paper presentation, Auto CAD, 3D modelling, technical debate, and village planning have been lined up as part of competitions.

Pantheon 2014 inter-college competition for civil engineers in India [locals]

The civil engineers of CET (College of Engineering Trivandrum) have opened ICI (Indian Concrete Institute) Chapter in 2013. The idea behind was to conduct competitions, workshops. It has acted as a platform where ideas are shared, theories are questioned an classroom knowledge is challenged. 

ICI CET Students chapter is going to organize an event exclusively for civil engineers on 29th of August, 2014 by the title of “Pantheon”. It was conducted as a part of celebrating concrete day while adding luster to the 75th anniversary of college of engineering, Trivandrum.

A Short Course on Tunnel Concept, Design and Construction by PIAS


Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIAS) offer a short course on Tunnels Concept, Design and Construction on 25-26 August 2014, PIAS, Islamabad, Pakistan. The details of this course is as under.

Post Disaster Houses Competition in Punjab Youth Festival pakistan

Disasters are the means by which nature tests our abilities and skills to fight for our fate and to fight for our existence on this planet. To understand the construction techniques involved for a cheap and easy to construct post houses Punjab Youth Festival Pakistan now in 2014 has started an event with title "Post Disaster Houses Design Competition". The event is on Saturday March 1, 2014.

Basic ideology behind is to take a step for the need of shelter at the disaster sites. This event is under the Punjab International IT, Science and Technology Exhibitions and Competitions which encourages the engineering and architecture students to step up and work for the rehabilitation of the needy. 

Students are asked to design disaster houses to accommodate a family of 4 to 5 people with electricity supply, proper sanitation and hygienic environment along with enough strength to withstand the aftereffects of the disaster for four weeks.

What winner will get?


The winners of this event will be given handsome cash prizes along with appreciation and recognition at National level.

The Official Judgment Criteria for the Project falls into following categories:
